AKEL and United Cyprus Party (BKP) delegations meet to discuss Cyprus problem

cpr reunificationWithin the framework of the meetings of the Joint Committee on the Cyprus problem, a meeting was held today between a delegation of AKEL and the Turkish Cypriot United Cyprus Party (BKP). Heading the delegation of the Turkish Cypriot party was its General Secretary Salih Sonustun. The AKEL delegation included the member of the Political Bureau and Head of the Cyprus problem Office Toumazos Tsielepis, the member of the Political Bureau Christos Christofides and the members of the Central Committee and the Cyprus problem Office Stavri Kalopsidiotou and Nikos Moudouros.

During the meeting both parties stated their desire for the ongoing process to lead to a solution of the Cyprus problem based on principles and within the agreed framework. The hope was expressed that the remaining disagreements be overcome soon so that we can arrive within range of an agreement. The two parties reaffirmed the importance of contacts between them and decided that the Joint Committee on the Cyprus problem intensify its work.
