Donald Trump assumes US Presidency

The huddling of far-right wealth tycoons at Trump’s inauguration reflects the orientation of the new US government. It symbolizes the escalation and deepening, more reactionary than ever, of the domestic and foreign policy of the superpower. The agenda of each US government is fully aligned and subordinated to the interests of the oligarchy, which is now of course becoming more aggressive and ruthless in order to defend US hegemony on the planet. The escalation of the energy, commercial, technological and military confrontation with the US’s geopolitical competitors and the threats against the territorial integrity of sovereign states, even against NATO members, demonstrate the dangers to global peace and security. At the same time, it is an agenda that directly threatens democratic freedoms, labour and social gains, human rights, women’s rights, and the environment. In the face of all this, the response should be a clear and resilient defense of peace and international law in the world, of workers rights and the rights of the younger generation, of the values of solidarity, democracy, and freedom.
