The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL met with a delegation of the Communist Party of China

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, heading a Party delegation, met today with a delegation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which is visiting Cyprus within the framework of a tour of Europe. The delegation of the CP of China was headed by Guo Yenzhou, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CP China, and was accompanied by China’s Ambassador to Cyprus Liu Yantao.
During the meeting, an exchange of views on the current international situation took place and concern was expressed about the militarisation of international relations. The need to return to the respect for international law and to solving problems through diplomatic channels was underlined.
The two delegations discussed various aspects of bilateral relations between AKEL and the Communist Party of China and satisfaction was expressed at their continued development on the basis of mutual respect.
It was underlined that the two Parties will continue to contribute towards the expansion of Cyprus-China inter-state relations for the benefit of the two peoples.
The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL expressed AKEL’s gratitude for China’s principled position on the solution of the Cyprus problem, particularly in its capacity as a permanent member state of the Security Council of the UN. He reiterated AKEL’s support for the “one country, two systems” policy.
The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL was accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Secretariat, Nikos Ioannou, the Head of International Relations and European Policy of the C.C. of AKEL, Vera Polycarpou, and the members of the C.C., Marios Panagi and Elias Demetriou.
