AKEL bids farewell to Xenophon Kallis

24 September 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

AKEL today bids farewell to Xenophon Kallis, one of the pioneers in the struggle to investigate the fate of the missing persons of Cyprus. Xenophon Kallis, who served for years as Head of the Missing Persons Service, was one of the unsung heroes in the investigation and identification of hundreds of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots who went missing between 1963 and 1974. In addition to his research work, he stood out for his humanitarian approach, bi-communal cooperation, diligence and selfless contribution to the issue of the missing persons.

Xenophon Kallis has consistently opposed the logics of petty-political exploitation of the issue of the missing persons and the attempts to cover up chauvinist crimes committed during the intercommunal clashes of 1963-64 and the twin crimes of 1974.

We convey our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Xenophon Kallis.
