AKEL denounces Tatar’s provocative statements

7 November 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

AKEL denounces the new extremely provocative statements by the occupation leader Ersin Tatar about the supposed transformation of Varosha into a cultural capital of the Turkish-speaking populations. Such statements are an insult to the history of our country. The cultural subjugation attempted by Mr. Tatar and Turkey in the occupied territories is an additional reminder of the need to resume a meaningful dialogue and reach a mutually acceptable solution as soon as possible that will reunite our homeland and people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

Since 2017 and onwards, with its views totally disregarded, AKEL has been tirelessly repeating that the questioning of important convergences that have been recorded and the erroneous handlings and assessments made by Anastasiades-Christodoulides-Averof would lead us down dangerous paths. Unfortunately, what is happening in Varosha confirms our worst nightmares and the urgent need for a change of leadership in the handling of the Cyprus problem.
