The moral perpetrator of the war in Ukraine – Article by Andreas Christou, former AKEL Political Bureau member

With the passage of time more and more people are realizing the important dimensions of this war, as well as the motives behind it.

At the same time, international analysts, journalists, military and energy experts point to the leading role played by the most reactionary circles of the US, dating back to 1990, in the preparation of this conflict.

Thus, while the so-called cold war was supposed to have ended with the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact, a new war was launched at the same time, with the USA at the forefront, with the goal of:

– The expansion of NATO towards the east and the accession of the former socialist countries into it.

– The economic and political annexation of the republics of the former Soviet Union.

– The demonization and isolation of the Russian Federation.

– The global control of strategic raw materials and energy sources.

Therefore, despite the pledges that were made to Gorbachev and Yeltsin, all the American governments, assisted by certain leaders of the European Union, have implemented and are implementing this aggressive policy by every means possible.

The accession of the three former Soviet Baltic republics to NATO and the coup d’état coordinated by the Obama administration for the overthrow the pro-Russian, elected President of Ukraine, Yanukovych, are perhaps the most characteristic examples of this US policy.

In Ukraine, the remnants of pro-Nazi formations and the interests of the Ukrainian oligarchs in fact, by exploiting local nationalists, set up a political scene that is reminiscent of the darkest pages of recent European history:

  • The eastern regions inhabited by Russian populations were turned by fascist armed groups into a war zone with thousands of dead and hundreds of thousands of displaced persons.
  • Ukraine – its economy, industry, armed forces, and political life – was placed under the complete control and subordination of the USA and its allies.
  • A wide network of armed pro-Hitler battalions was organised with SS and Third Reich slogans and symbols.
  • An unprecedented orgy of hostility and hatred against Russia and the Russians was systematically cultivated, with the participation of the Ukrainian government, which in fact called for their extermination.

The political and military presence of the USA and its allies in Ukraine was akin to the control of an occupied country. In every Ministry, in the Armed Forces in the Police, in every important agency there is an American Commissioner who decides on serious issues and formulates policy.

For example, the son of Biden, the current US President, was the Commissioner in the Department of Energy, and he was subsequently appointed co-chairman of the Ukrainian Natural Gas Enterprise. He is apparently the same person who, according to recent reports, acted as an intermediary in biological weapons development programmes in Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is otherwise a native Russian speaker, was elected to office on two key promises:

(a) that he would stop the war in Donbass

(b) that he would relentlessly combat corruption.

Unfortunately, after the election he not only compromised with corruption, but tolerated the further development of the anti-Russian, criminal activities of the Nazi gangs and escalated the war launched in Eastern Ukraine.

The war raging today is not between Russia and Ukraine, but between Russia and the USA, which is seeking global domination. The USA is currently fighting in various parts of the world by proxy, and unfortunately this is the role it has imposed on the current leadership of Ukraine, which has become one of its tools in this direction.

The strategic objective is to weaken and shrink Russia – and then China – by declaring, if they succeed, total war against them.

The rhetoric used by the US President against Russia is also characteristic: “Let’s destroy them”, “Let’s dismantle them”.

So, yes, Russia has its own responsibilities for the war, but the moral perpetrator and the only winner is the United States.
