Erdogan’s statements a blatant provocation against Cyprus
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 15th April 2021, Nicosia
The new threats issued by Turkish President Erdogan against Cyprus are a blatant provocation against the Cypriot people as a whole and the international community. In fact, given that they were launched just a few days before the informal five-party meeting in Geneva, these statements are at the same time undermining the prospects of the upcoming meeting and the climate in which it should be held.
Everyone knows that the lawful rights of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots and their exercise in practice are ensured through the solution of the Cyprus problem on the agreed basis and framework, through the liberation and reunification of our island.
In the face of the provocations of the occupying power’s leader, AKEL addresses an appeal for unity to every Cypriot, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot, to support the effort for the resumption of the negotiations from the point they had remained in 2017 at Crans Montana, to achieve a solution of bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality as set out in the Resolutions of the UN, for a free and united Cyprus, a common homeland for all its children.
