AKEL submits comprehensive proposal on the Cyprus problem
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 3rd December 2020, Nicosia
In the face of the new fait accompli and enormous dangers that are lurking for the cause of the Cyprus problem and Cyprus itself, AKEL chooses the path of constructive contribution with the submission of a comprehensive proposal on how the Greek Cypriot community should act in the immediate period ahead. The goal of AKEL is to contribute towards neutralizing any attempt to bring a two-state solution to the negotiating table and for developments to move forward according to the agreed basis and framework. Furthermore, AKEL’s goal is for a resumption of the negotiations from the point where they had remained at Crans Montana, on the basis of the Guterres Framework and the convergences that have been agreed. For a solution of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality as described by the Resolutions of the United Nations.
The Central Committee of AKEL has already discussed and approved the proposal, which after being codified will be presented first to the President of the Republic and subsequently it will be made public.
AKEL addresses an appeal to everyone to sense that the times that the Cyprus problem and Cyprus are going through are literally extremely critical. The partitionist and occupation status quo constitutes a threat to the whole of the Cypriot people. The only way for the salvation of Cyprus is the solution of the Cyprus problem based on principles, liberation and reunification.
