What is the government’s position on sanctions on Belarus and Turkey?

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 15th September 2020, Nicosia

We are again asking the government today the following question: what is its position on sanctions against Belarus and Turkey?

The Government spokesman Mr. Kousios declared the two issues were not related.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Christodoulidis, states in triumphant tones that the government has successfully promoted the “packaging” of the two issues. Both statements can’t apply. One negates the other.

In truth, what position will the President of the Republic support when he attends the EU Summit in ten days?

Will he keep silent, as the government is doing now?

Will he say one thing in Brussels and another in Cyprus?

The government has an obligation to give a reply and clarify its position.
