Instead of attacks on AKEL the President should focus on preparing for the trilateral meeting
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stephanos Stefanou on the Government Spokesman’s attack on AKEL
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 11th November 2019, Nicosia
Right now it would be better if the President and the Presidential Palace instead of focusing on waging attacks against AKEL were preparing themselves for the crucial trilateral meeting due to take place on 25th November in Berlin.
Only with clear positions, unwavering consistency to what has been agreed and a constructive spirit on our side will our just cause be shielded and will Turkey’s true stance be revealed. Otherwise we will be telling each other that we are the ones who are right, but this won’t be reflected in the UN Secretary General’s Reports. If Turkey really does not want to go to a five-party meeting, it will be the one who will have the problem. The duty of our side is to focus on the effort to reach a successful conclusion on the terms of reference at the trilateral meeting in Berlin.
In these times, the President of the Republic, the political forces and our people as a whole – Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots – must understand that only a solution of the Cyprus problem based on principles guarantees security and peace in our country. Only the liberation and reunification of Cyprus can truly safeguard the future of our people.
