The President complains about criticism, but he and no-one else is constantly opening fronts

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou,

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18 December 2018, Nicosia

On the one hand, the President of the Republic is constantly complaining that he is being unfairly criticized and, on the other hand, he and no-one else doesn’t fail whenever given the opportunity to open fronts. On the other hand, the President cites the need for unity, which undeniably should exist.

In an interview with a TV station, Mr. Anastasiades implied that AKEL is criticizing him because it has a one-sided briefing. The President forces us to reply in order to defend ourselves.

Mr. Anastasiades knows very well that AKEL has contacts on the Cyprus problem with many important parties, both in Cyprus and abroad. What AKEL says about the President is based on information received from numerous important sources and the information that AKEL has can’t be disputed in any way whatsoever. Besides, government officials and others have admitted it in their public statements.

All that AKEL has been accusing the President of, namely his regressions and ambiguities not only in relation to the basis of the solution, the President himself has hastened to confirm in the relevant interview. His references that “no one can prevent him from reflecting in the event of a new stalemate” and that “I don’t engage in scaremongering” in the event that Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation is abandoned – in a reply to the statement made by the DISY President – speak for themselves.

Therefore, Mr. President, few words suffice for those that understand.
