Reports reveal complete absence of a comprehensive immigration policy exposing Cyprus in Europe and internationally
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 25 April 2018, Nicosia
The Anastasiades-DISY Government is called upon to decide whether it really wants Cyprus to be a modern European country.
Two reports, one by the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child for the safeguarding of the rights of children of informal migrants with long-term residence in Cyprus and the other by the UNHCR, have been published in the last 24 hours. Both Reports reveal the complete absence of a comprehensive immigration policy which has resulted in our country being exposed in Europe and internationally as a country where vulnerable groups remain unprotected, international conventions are not respected and fundamental human rights are being violated.
The Government and the Minister of the Interior in particular must seriously reflect on the situation that exposes Cyprus and take appropriate action.
