Government and Education Ministry must give a reply as to why a well-known extreme right-winger will be honored
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 22 April 2018, Nicosia
Huge question marks are raised demanding a reply from the Anastasiadis-DISY government and the Ministry of Education as to the presentation of the book “The Life and Times of a Titan” due to take place at the “House of Cyprus” in Athens Greece, which refers to the well-known ultra-right extremist Fotis Papapotis, who will in fact be honored at this event.
Who Fotis Papapotis is actually is very well known.
He himself stated in his autobiography that he was responsible for the intelligence services of EOKA B and the General Secretary and General Organizer of the “Unified Committee of the Struggle for Enosis” (ESEA), namely the political organization of EOKA B.
In an interview he gave to the journalist Kostas Yenaris, Fotis Papapotis states that at a meeting he had with Grivas in Athens before 1971 when EOKA B was established, he proposed the seizure of power in Cyprus.
But also during the period when Fotis Papafotis was the Chief of EOKA in the region of Karpasia, during the period of EOKA 1955-59, executions were carried out in his region on the accusation of “traitor”, executions which included the people of the Left as well.
In his book “The modern nightmare of the nation – KKE & AKEL” Papafotis admits that, “…I assumed full responsibility for the executions committed in the Karpasia region” That is, he is responsible for the murders of Menikos, Yasoumis, Petrou, and Tofaris.
This man will be honored with the contribution of the Anastasiades – DISY government and the Ministry of Education. Evidently, the government and ruling forces do not care whether people such as Papafotis have sowed the seeds of intolerance, discord, and through their own actions brought Turkey to Cyprus.
The government and the Ministry of Education must give an answer.
