AKEL on the issue of security and guarantees
Statement by Stefanos Stefanou, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18th January 2017, Nicosia
On the occasion of the beginning of the discussion on security and guarantees in Mont Peleran, we want to express the hope and wish that the consultation will yield such results so as to create optimism for the achievement of an agreement.
The intentions and positions of each side will be reflected in the negotiation. Now that we are at the discussion of the chapter on security and guarantees, it is imperative that Turkey must move from its long-standing positions and be in line with the position that is being expressed by various involved parties that a European state, such as Cyprus, has no need for guarantors.
A possible agreement on the issue of security and guarantees will represent a decisive step towards the achievement of an overall agreed solution to the Cyprus problem.
