AKEL: Solidarity with the Venezuelan people’s struggle against the right-wing establishment and imperialist interventions!
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 2nd September 2016
These past few days the political attacks launched against the lawful government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela are intensifying. These machinations are escalating following the call issued by the right-wing opposition for a so-called “peaceful” occupation of the capital Caracas yesterday, 1st September.
These attacks represent a continuation of the continuing attempts by the right-wing establishment of the country and the imperialist forces to overthrow the progressive government of Nicolás Maduro by any means. The mobilizations organized by the opposition have many times become the pretext for outbreaks of violent attacks leading to the injury and death of civilians, the destruction of public property and services, the general paralysis of the country and the cultivation of the conditions for a general political crisis. Under these conditions, the concerns regarding the opposition’s real intentions are growing.
AKEL expresses its solidarity with the difficult struggle which the people of Venezuela are continuing to wage. Within this framework, AKEL signed, together with other Communist and Workers’ Parties, a relevant Appeal of Solidarity with the People of Venezuela. Furthermore, Vera Polycarpou, member of the C.C. of AKEL and Head of the International Relations and European Affairs Department of AKEL had a meeting Mr. Jeanpier Anaya Salas Minister Counsellor / Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to express AKEL’s solidarity and for a further briefing on the ongoing developments in the country.
