Message of condolence to Communist Party of Greece for the passing away of Babis Angourakis
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL Andros Kyprianou today sent a message of condolence to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece for the untimely death of MEP and cadre of the Communist Party of Greece comrade Babis Angourakis.
The full text of the message:
“Nicosia, 13th May, 2014

On behalf of the Central Committee of AKEL accept our sincere condolences for the untimely death of MEP and cadre of the Communist Party of Greece, comrade Babis Angourakis. This sad news finds us profoundly devastated here at AKEL and especially those of us who knew comrade Babis.
Babis Aggourakis stood out for his range and breadth of knowledge and intellect. He was distinguished by his internationalist approach; by his genuine solidarity with every struggling people, having being raised and nurtured with the communist ideology. As a child of political refugees, he experienced first-hand suffering and uprooting. From the various positions from which he served his Party and the people, he defended the just cause of the worker, the just cause of the peoples who are suffering from imperialism.
With his dialectic thinking and manner, maturity of thought, simplicity and humour, characteristics which were distinct in him, he stood out and gained the respect of his interlocutor. He never sought any self-promotion and remained a humble man of the people, whether in the European Parliament, or in the Greek Parliament.
A long-standing friend and comrade of AKEL and personally myself with whom we have worked together from his positions in the International Relations Department of the Communist Party of Greece KKE, he stood out by his willingness to offer his services: to his Party, the Greek people, his family, for his militant spirit, ethos and affection.
