Solidarity with the Turkish people and workers

AKEL expresses its deep sorrow and shock at the tragedy at the mine of Soma, in the province of Manisa in Turkey, where hundreds of miners met a tragic death and many others have been injured, whilst others are still trapped in the mine.

AKEL conveys its sincere condolences to the Turkish people and in particular to the relatives of the victims who lost their lives so unjustly in the daily struggle for a wage and survival.

On the occasion of the tragic incident in Turkey, AKEL stresses that the life and safety of workers cannot be sacrificed for the sake of profit. By extension, the competent state authorities, as well as employers all over the world, have the obligation and must take all necessary measures to ensure that humanity does not relive such tragedies at the workplace.
