Will the government also attack the European Commission?
Statement by AKEL Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 28th August 2020, Nicosia
The European Commission warns the Republic of Cyprus with the taking of legal action on the naturalization program and demands that the government is strict in revoking naturalizations.
We wonder:
What will be the reaction of the Anastasiades government and ruling DISY party to what the European Commission has stated?
- Will they load them, as usual, with the opposition and AKEL?
- Will they put the blame on external intrusions?
- Will they again claim that there is nothing wrong, as the Minister of Interior stated the day before yesterday?
- Will they attack the Commission, as President Anastasiades has done before in order to defend the passport industry that was set up during his days?
The relevant European Commissioner states that Cyprus has been warned several times and that a relevant letter has been sent. The government must state how many warnings it has received and how it has responded.
The government and DISY are called to upon to at long last put Cyprus and its interests above the feast they set up with the golden passport industry. The government must stop hiding the problems and put an end to the unacceptable situation that is shaming Cyprus.
Political will and determination on the part of the government to clear the name of Cyprus are demanded.
