Troika’s visits to Cyprus used as a Trojan horse to implement anti-social policies

Whether the visit of the team of international lenders to Cyprus is a usual technocratic visit or whether it will lead to new demands depends on the policy that the Anastasiades-DISY government wants to follow in the coming months.
The Government’s political record so far has shown that the Troika’s visits to Cyprus have been used as a Trojan horse to implement anti-social policies, which also represented the Government’s long-standing positions. We should not forget that the Minister of Finance called the Memorandum the political-ideological manifesto of the Government. Indeed in many cases the government proceeded to take even more extreme measures than the demands set by the Troika itself.
Consequently, if the Government maintains that the economy is on the path of recovery then its policies must also be equivalent. The policies deregulating labour relations and promoting the privatization of public wealth and property do not help neither society, nor the economy. On the contrary, what we need are policies to boost growth, reduce income inequality and improve working people’s and citizen’s welfare.
