The visit of the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL S.Stefanou to China was completed successfully

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, who visited China heading a Party delegation to the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), following an invitation from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, returned to Cyprus yesterday.
During the five-day visit to Beijing and Shanghai, meetings were held with the member of the Political Bureau of the C.C. of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Congress, Li Hongzhong, with the leadership of the International Affairs Department of the Central Committee of CPC, as well as with leading Party officials of the Haidian District Party in Beijing and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in the city of Shanghai.
During the meetings, they briefed each other on developments in the two countries and the policies of the two Parties on international and other issues of common interest, and stressed the need to resolve international, regional and local problems in a peaceful manner on the basis of international law.
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the AKEL, briefed on the current state surrounding the Cyprus problem and confirmed AKEL’s position, which is also the position of the Republic of Cyprus, for “One China”. The Chinese officials reiterated the principled position, which the PRC, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, holds on the solution of the Cyprus problem.
The AKEL delegation was informed about the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics being developed under the
guidance of the Communist Party of China.
The visit confirmed the very good level of relations between AKEL and the CP of China, which are developing very dynamically. Furthermore, it was agreed that the two Parties should continue their efforts to further strengthen and develop their bilateral relations. Satisfaction was also expressed at the level of relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the People’s Republic of China which are developing on the basis of mutual respect and equal cooperation.
The AKEL delegation also visited Research, Innovation and Ecology Centres and was briefed about the development and application of technological and Artificial Intelligence developments in the country’s daily life and in the protection of the environment.
Stefanos Stefanou was accompanied in China by the members of the Political Bureau Nikos Ioannou and Charis Karamanos and the members of the C.C. of AKEL Vera Polycarpou, Evanthia Savva and Maria Ioannidou.
Secretary
