The Trump administration’s “Board of Peace” is a strategy to further undermine the United Nations

19 January 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The “Board of Peace” for Gaza set up by the United States is not even a mechanism for implementing the – bogus – ceasefire in blood-stained Palestine, where ethnic cleansing and colonization being carried out by Israel continue. It is a plan to bury the Resolutions of the UN on the Middle East and, above all, it represents a strategic effort by the Trump administration to establish a new international organization that will oppose the United Nations.

AKEL stresses that the further marginalisation of the UN and ongoing disregard for international law does not bode well for the states and peoples of the world. If the logic of the mighty, violence, and big business, then states such as the Republic of Cyprus, which bases its existence, foreign policy, and struggle for liberation on international law, will find themselves in an even more precarious position.

The Christodoulides government must consider the precedent set by the Trump administration’s plans and what this will mean for Cyprus and the Cyprus problem.
