Meeting between the General Secretary of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou and the Commissioner for the Protection of Personal Data, Ms Maria Christofidou

The General Secretary of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou and Central Organisational Secretary Haris Karamanos held a meeting today with the Commissioner for the Protection of Personal Data, Ms Maria Christofidou.

During the meeting, issues relating to the protection of personal data were discussed, as well as the need for political parties to comply strictly with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and national legislation.

The discussion also focused on the needs of the Commissioner’s Office and the issue of its understaffing.

The Commissioner had also raised this specific issue during the debate on her Office’s budget in Parliament, highlighting the challenges posed by the increased workload combined with limited human resources.

Finally, views were exchanged on artificial intelligence (AI), the challenges it poses for the protection of personal data and its wider implications at a global level.
