The occupying force’s incursion in the buffer zone is a violation of the status of the zone and is of grave concern

28 November 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The incursion by the occupying forces in an uninhabited house within the [UN-administered] buffer zone in Agios Dometios constitutes a violation of the status of the buffer zone and is of grave concern. AKEL expects to be fully informed of the incident from the government.

This development comes follows the events in Pyla and other provocative actions that have been taken by the occupying force which are increasing insecurity on the island, further damaging the trust between the two communities and undermining the prospects for the resumption of the talks for a solution of the Cyprus problem. The backdrop of the prolonged negotiating deadlock, combined with the demand put forward by Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot leadership for a two state solution to the Cyprus problem, multiply the dangers to peace and security in our country.
