The Ministry of Education continues to fail
Statement by Andros Kafkalias, member of the C.C. of AKEL
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 6th June 2020, Nicosia
While we all acknowledged the crucial role teachers played in keeping the educational process alive during the pandemic – and praised them,
While we all know that teachers continue to declare their readiness – and indeed prove it in practice – to fill the gaps the pandemic is leaving behind, but also bearing in mind the sloppiness and erroneous handlings of the Ministry of Education,
While the Ministry of Education had time to study, consult and submit amendments to the rules for Secondary and Primary Education in order to facilitate the implementation of special rules for the upcoming period,
The Ministry of Education has chosen, according to its favorite tactic, “I decide and issue orders”, to submit rules at the very last minute, without even an elementary consultation having been preceded, blackmailing Parliament to immediate approve them. In fact, the main characteristics of these regulations is the concession of extraordinary-powers to the Minister of Education.
Unfortunately, this is another act of arbitrariness and sloppiness by the Ministry of Education, which continues to fail.
