AKEL Political Bureau member Neoklis Sylikiotis replies to government spokesman

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 7th November 2020, Nicosia

The Government Spokesman, replying to today’s speech by the General. Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, stated that it contained unsubstantiated allegations.

Is the claim that the DISY-Anastasiades Government has disgraced Cyprus internationally unsubstantiated?

Is it the claim that almost all European and international institutions, as well as dozens of international media outlets, have criticized Cyprus for its golden passport industry groundless?

Is the allegation that the European Commission has initiated legal proceedings against the Republic of Cyprus in the European Court of Justice unfounded?

Is it the claim that the President’s family business, as well as the firms of current and former Ministers of the current government that participated in the decisions, are involved in the process of issuing hundreds of golden passports unsubstantiated?

Is it the claim that the President and his family were traveling in the luxury private jet of a Saudi Arabian tycoon, whose family received dozens of passports, unfounded?

AKEL has submitted dozens of proposals and legislative proposals to stamp out corruption, in contrast to the President and the Government who not only denied the problem, but also criticized those, both inside and outside Cyprus, who made allegations about corruption and interwoven interests in relation to the golden passport industry.

Today, the President of the Republic and the Government are wasting their time engaging in meetings to serve communication purposes, supposedly to address the corruption, at a time when the majority of the people perceives them as a joke and another attempt at distracting the people.
