The government isn’t interested in social housing, but only in building towers for their cronies to enrich themselves
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou, on social housing
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 4 March 2019, Nicosia
The Cyprus Land Development Agency and the Housing Finance Corporation were created primarily to help small and middle-strata households acquire their own home. Even though the Minister of Interior had announced four months ago in the House of Representatives that he would come in two or three months with comprehensive housing plans to promote accessible and social housing, what we have concluded today is that the government has done nothing.
Furthermore, not only has the government done nothing, but at the same time it has cut and curbed the programs of the Land Development Agency. There is anything on the horizon apart from empty meaningless – as it turns out – government announcements.
It is obvious that the government is not interested in the issue of housing. In this area too, the government has proven to be socially insensitive. The government is only interested in building towers/skyscrapers to suit its cronies and their enrichment.
