The government fostered corruption and is now engaging in communication tricks
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 9th November 2020, Nicosia
Nikos Anastasiades and his government are calling on organizations and bodies to participate in an urgent meeting at the Presidential Palace on corruption. In other words, after 8 years during which they fostered corruption and covered up scandals, the Anastasiades-DISY are now resorting to communication tricks to deceive society.
- Mr. Anastasiades and his government first set up the golden passport industry.
- the government ruling forces subsequently refused to acknowledge the abuse and corruption surrounding the investment-for-citizenship program, until the EU initiated proceedings against Cyprus.
- To this day, the government ruling forces have not said a single word about the glaring conflict of interest that exists in his government with regards the citizenship program. More than 350 citizenship applications have been submitted by offices that are connected with the President himself and members of his government. That is to say, these offices were submitting applications and they themselves were approving them.
When after all this, Mr. Anastasiades not only does not take on any political responsibility, but declares on top of that that he has a clear conscience, he shouldn’t be surprised that social organizations refuse to attend the meeting he has called, nor that citizens continue to demand catharsis, transparency and accountability.
