The General Secretary of CC AKEL met with the new British High Commissioner

 

 

The General Secretary of the CC of AKEL , Stefanos Stefanou, met with the new British High Commissioner, Michael Tatham.  During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current situation of the Cyprus problem, the upcoming visit of the UN Assistant Secretary-General to Cyprus, and the prospects for the resumption of talks.

Stefanou reiterated AKEL’s position that time is working against the solution and stressed the need to resume the talks from where they were left in 2017, maintaining the convergences and agreements. He underlined that AKEL will continue to work to achieve a solution of a bizonal bicommunal federation with political equality.

Also present at the meeting,  during which readiness to continue the dialogue was expressed, were Toumazos Tsielepis, member of the Political Bureau and Head of the Cyprus Problem Policy of AKEL, Stavri Kalopsidiotou, member of CC and the Cyprus Problem Bureau, and Vera Polycarpou, member of the CC and Head of International Relations and European Policy.
