The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL had today a farewell meeting with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou had today a farewell meeting with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Cyprus Mr. Xingyuan Huang, who is leaving our country after four years. The member of the Political Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL Nikos Ioannou and the Head of the International Relations Bureau of C.C. of AKEL Vera Polycarpou were also present in the meeting.
The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China praised the role of AKEL in the development of the relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the People’s Republic of China, also the result of AKEL’s fraternal relations with the Communist Party of China. On the part of AKEL, the General Secretary of AKEL Andros Kyprianou stressed the role played by Ambassador Mr. Xingyuan Huang in the deepening of the Cypriot-Chinese relations and friendship between the two peoples. Furthermore, he welcomed the long-standing position based on principles adhered to by the Peoples Republic of China on the Cyprus problem, which was also expressed in the recent Resolution of the UN Security Council on the renewal of the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China also stated that this principled position based on the part of the Chinese government towards the Republic of Cyprus and on the Cyprus Problem will continue.
The discussion highlighted the common concerns about international developments and with regards the decline of international cooperation during the pandemic, the undermining of the international security system and institutions of the United Nations, as well as about the militarization of the Eastern Mediterranean.
The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL wished all the very best in the course of Mr. Xingyuan Huang in the demanding field of diplomacy and presented a work by the Cypriot artist engraver Hambis as a commemorative souvenir.
