The General Secretary of AKEL discussed the housing problem with young people

24 April 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, conversed with young people about the burning issue of housing at an open discussion held at Zouhuri Square in Larnaca,.

The inadequacy in the availability of affordable housing, expensiveness, the high cost of living and low wages are holding back young people and keeping them far away from realising their plans for the future. The dilemma between acquiring a home and starting a family dominates the decisions of many young people’s lives. The absence of a comprehensive state housing policy and the obstacles that are being put to the young generation finding the necessary funds to acquire a home, combined with recent increases in interest rates, exacerbate the problem.

Within the context of the campaign it has launched under the slogan “Housing for All”, AKEL is submitting and discussing with society its proposal for a comprehensive and socially-oriented housing policy.
