The General Secretary of AKEL congratulates the 1st Secretary of the C.C. of the Communist Party of Cuba on his election

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 20th April 2021, Nicosia

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL Andros Kyprianou congratulated the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, on his election yesterday as the 1st Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. The message follows below:

“Dear Comrade Diaz-Canel,

On behalf of the Central Committee of AKEL and personally myself, I would like to warmly congratulate you on your election to the highly responsible post of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, and wish you every success in your work to the benefit of the Cuban people.

We warmly congratulate all members elected to the Central Committee, the Political Bureau and Secretariat, as well as all CPC and Communist Youth members and the Cuban people.

The successful conclusion of the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, that has reached highly significant resolutions for the development of the Party and Cuba, will be of outmost importance during the challenging times we all live at.

On this occasion AKEL reiterates its pledge to intensify the battle waged together with world progressive forces to put an end to the criminal US blockade against Cuba.

We take the opportunity to express our deep gratitude for the consistent principled position and solidarity of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban Government with the struggle to free Cyprus from the Turkish occupation and reunify our country and people under a bizonal, bicommunal federation.

I look forward to opportunities to meet in person and further the fraternal relations, understanding and cooperation of AKEL and the Communist Party of Cuba.

Comradely,

Andros Kyprianou

General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL”
