The Communist Party of Cuba thanks AKEL

In a letter to AKEL, the Communist Party of Cuba expresses its thanks to AKEL for its solidarity with the Cuban people and the work of the Cuban medical brigades. The text of the letter from the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba is as follows:
“We thank you for your warm message of solidarity with the Party, the Government and the people of Cuba which recognizes their work, as well as the special reference to the solidarity work carried out by our country’s medical brigades that are located in various countries, carrying out the sacred task of saving lives in the face of the threat posed by Covid-19.
Cuba has been suffering from the economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the US government for 60 years. This blockade is characterized as a criminal policy of genocide due to the fact that its declared goal is to cause suffering, shortages and impose restrictions on our people.
At a time when our country is confronting the effects of the pandemic from the new coronavirus, the restrictions imposed by the blockade do not permit the necessary supplies and equipment to enter the country, which shows its inhumane character and the need to unite around the international demand for its termination.
The internationalist work of our health professionals reflects the humanism that characterizes our people; the humanism in which the well-being of men and women, regardless of ideology, faith, race or economic power, occupies a central position and is part of Cuba’s internationalist tradition ever since the Revolution was victorious. This reflects the solidarity that has characterized our revolutionary procedure, which we are reaffirming today.”
