The Christodoulides government has classified Cyprus in an international minority of shame that covers up the genocide and the war criminal Netanyahu
In the last 24 hours, many in the international community have been forced – some of them ostensibly – to take action on Israel’s atrocities in Gaza. Even now, however, Mr Christodoulides and his government choose to place Cyprus in an international minority of shame which covers up the genocide and the Netanyahu far-right extremist government. The Christodoulides government opposed the revision of EU-Israel relations as demanded by the majority of EU member-states. Moreover, it did not co-sign the joint appeal of 23 states calling for humanitarian aid to be allowed into Gaza, even though Christodoulides otherwise touts Amalthea.
– What exactly is this high foreign policy that mandates a cover-up of the massacre and starvation of thousands of children and civilians?
– What, after all, is the government defending at a time when Netanyahu has dropped the masks and openly proclaims that his goal is to conquer Gaza and expand the occupation and settlement? That – which we all knew from the beginning – was their goal all along.
– How can the government invoke international law in the case of Cyprus when it is covering up and justifying the most brutal violation of international law in decades?
AKEL is sending a clear message to Mr. Christodoulides and Mr. Kombos that with the foreign policy they are pursuing- a foreign policy that is spineless, without moral principles, without credibility, without dignity – they are not only not serving the interests of the people of Cyprus, but they are undermining them. Furthermore, let the friends of the wanted war criminal Netanyahu remember that sooner or later history will write “tell me your friends and I will tell you who you are”.
AKEL calls on the Cypriot people to react and condemn the ongoing genocide and the choices of the Christodoulides government. We call for mass participation in the event organised by the Cyprus Peace Council next Monday, 26 May at 18:30 outside the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
