The Central Committee of AKEL honored Party veteran Loukis Aletras

The Central Committee of AKEL today honored the Party’s veteran Loukis Aletras on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Loukis Aletras, a Historical leading militant of the Party, has been a member of the Political Bureau and Central Secretariat of AKEL for over 20 years. Furthermore, he was one of 135 AKEL militants imprisoned in 1955 when the British colonialists outlawed AKEL.
Referring to the services of Loukis Aletras, the General Secretary of Central Committee of AKEL Andros Kyprianou, stated that during difficult times for the Left “comrade Loukis Aletras, together with the other comrades of that time, worked with selflessness, conviction and devotion and he also made his own contribution to building the mass force bearing the name of AKEL”. Andros Kyprianou thanked Loukis Aletras for his services to the Party and the Cypriot people. “AKEL honors him on its part, because he has also has honored AKEL,” said A. Kyprianou. L. Aletras, on his part, thanked the leadership of the Party that honored him and referred to his activity since 1947 when he became a member of AKEL, reassuring that as long as he is alive he will continue to offer his services to the Party.
The C.C. of AKEL presented to Loukis Aletras a work by the sculptor Fotos Demetriou, which he crafted on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of AKEL.
