The C.C. of AKEL decides to propose the independent candidacy of Stavros Malas to the Extraordinary Party Congress

The plenary of the Central Committee of AKEL, which convened today, reviewed and assessed the discussion conducted in the Party Base Organizations (PBO) on the upcoming Presidential Elections. As is well known, the Central Committee’s proposal to the Party Base Organizations was to support the independent candidacy of Stavros Malas.
The assessment of the C.C. of AKEL is that a constructive dialogue took place in the PBO’s, which helps and enriches the Party’s policy and activities in the pre-election campaign. The C.C. expresses its gratitude and congratulates the Party’s members and friends for their active participation in the collective reflection on the Presidential Elections.
In addition, the members of the C.C. were also briefed on the result of the consultative secret ballot which was held in the POB’s for the support of the candidacy of Stavros Malas. Support for Stavros Malas’ candidacy gained more than 97% of the votes cast.
Taking into account the results of the inter-party dialogue, but also the results of the vote, the C.C. of AKEL has decided to propose the support of the independent candidacy of Stavros Malas at the Extraordinary Party Congress which will convene on Sunday 17th September at the Conference Hall of the Cyprus International Fair.
