The bombing of a hospital in Gaza is barbaric

The bombing of a hospital in Gaza, with hundreds of Palestinian civilians killed, is a barbarity that has literally shocked humanity. Israel’s contradictory versions and the cover provided by the US cannot disguise the Israeli government’s guilt for the horror the Palestinian people in Gaza have suffered and are being subjected to.

Even belatedly, everyone on the planet must realise that when the Netanyahu government talks about the “right of self-defence”, it means that the Israeli army will be allowed to continue to raze Gaza to the ground and murder civilians and children by the hundreds until it imposes a final solution of ethnic cleansing with the Palestinian people as the victims.

AKEL joins all the forces around the world who are calling for a ceasefire and an end to the blockade of Gaza, an end to the war and the occupation, for the creation of an independent Palestinian state as provided for in the Resolutions of the UN on the Middle East.

This is the only way to peace and security for the peoples of Israel and Palestine, but also for the entire long-suffering neighbourhood of the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean.

AKEL calls on the Cypriot people to the big anti-war rally organised by the Cyprus Peace Council this Friday, 20 October at 18:30, in Freedom Square in Nicosia.
