The Anastasiades-DISY government is competing with ELAM in jingoistic patriotism and xenophobia

The Anastasiades-DISY government is daily sliding towards authoritarianism, regime practices and a conservatism of bygone times.
- They ordered the police to launch a raid on a citizen’s home to seize a computer on the accusation that a citizen had satirized a Minister.
- They brutally attacked without being provoked a peaceful demonstration injuring civilians.
- They ordered an investigation against the Head teacher Giorgos Gavriel to establish his “national mindset” as if we are living during the 7 year Greek military junta, given that they found absolutely nothing to accuse him of for the artistic works he created in his spare time.
- Now, they are bringing disciplinary charges against a Senior Police Officer because he behaved towards the immigrants detained in the Menogia Centre…too humanely. More specifically, he is being prosecuted for committing crimes such as permitting inmates to use extra mattresses, play volleyball and wash their clothe…excessively.
The face of the European centre-right is coming apart and its real face is being revealed. It is party that is moving more and more to the extreme right every day and competing with extreme-right ELAM in flag-waving ‘patriotism’ and xenophobic.
Our country needs to pursue a different path. The Left calls on all those who envision a modern, progressive and democratic Cyprus to stand up and fight this dangerous slide of the government ruling forces. To unite and open the way for change…
