Statements by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL S.Stefanou during a tour of villages in the Nicosia district

Today we are on tour of the area of Arediou, Palechori and Mitsero.  The mass contact we have with the people on our tour simply confirms what all the measurements record.   A very large percentage of our society, a big majority is aggravated, resentful and angry with the situation that exists in Cyprus, because of the numerous problems and deadlocks that the ten-year Anastasiades-DISY government has caused in Cyprus.

The overwhelming majority of the country demands change and that we turn the page.  Faced with the challenge and stakes of the presidential elections, there are three main candidates, but in reality there are only two options.  Either the people will continue to live the discomfort, the distress and pressure they feel from the DISY governance by supporting one of the two DISY candidates, Averof Neophytou or Nikos Christodoulides, or they will achieve change by supporting Andreas Mavroyiannis, a candidate who is honest, sincere, effective and capable with a progressive programme to change things in the country.

Cyprus needs a government with ethos, it needs a government with sensitivity, it needs a government with honesty that will do all the things it is committed to and will not fool the people as this government of the ruling DISY party has done for the last ten years.  For that reason, there is only one real choice before us, namely Andreas Mavroyiannis.
