Statement by Vakis Charalambous, EDON Youth organisation on the government’s agenda for education

21st May 2021, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

Experimentations, sloppiness, lack of planning.

This was the main three pillar agenda in education, especially after the outbreak of the pandemic.

Authoritarianism, conservatism, anachronism.

This is the government ruling force’s three pillar agenda.

If we want to change our society for the better, we must also change our education system for the better.

Our vision is to create a humanistic and democratic school that will unleash our children’s creative and intellectual potential.

An Education that will nurture and cultivate justice, equality, meritocracy, compassion and combat racism, social discrimination, fascism and intolerance too.

We vote for AKEL for:

  • Modernization of special education, strengthening of special schools and special units.
  • Extension of the all-day compulsory school to Secondary Education.
  • Abolition of the illegal and anachronistic practice of the purchase of services in education.
  • Increase funding for research and coverage of all scientific subjects.
  • Further support for children with learning disabilities, foreign language students and children from lower socio-economic strata.

A vote for AKEL means a vote for public and quality education.

Let’s go move forward. With honesty, clarity and sincerity.
