RESOLUTION – Stop the banning of the Communist Party of Ukraine
The parody trial taking place today in Kiev with the clear goal of imposing the complete banning of the Communist Party of Ukraine is a process with evident political objectives. It represents the culmination of constant legal and other attempts to annihilate the Communist Party.
In this context, AKEL:
– Denounces the procedure to ban the Communist Party of Ukraine that the Ukrainian authorities are attempting to impose; a procedure that is violating principles of International Law, provisions of the Ukraine – EU Association Agreement that has been signed by the current Ukrainian authorities, rights and freedoms of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
– Denounces the ongoing and violent persecution of the Party carried out by the Ukrainian authorities themselves and ultra-right and fascist elements with the aim of annihilating the Party and its members.
– Denounces the attempts of the country’s so-called policy of “de-comunisation”, aimed at falsifying the history and collective memory of the country making it suitable to the ideological and political needs of the current state of affairs in Ukraine.
– Calls on the Ukrainian authorities to respect the international conventions which the country is a signatory to.
– Demands the immediate termination of the parody trial against the Communist Party of Ukraine.
– Demands the full restoration of the right of the Communist Party of Ukraine to political activity and participation in electoral processes.
– Reaffirms its full solidarity with the Communist Party of Ukraine until its vindication.
