Recent promotions in the Police Force have confirmed that giving jobs to cronies is well underway

The recent promotions in the Police Force have confirmed that, as is the case throughout the entire state structure, so in the police force too, giving jobs to cronies is well underway. From the first day it came to power and for nine years now, the DISY-Anastasiades government has consistently promoted the dismantling of the Police force. The government and DISY are doing everything in their power to serve the goal of promoting cronies in the Police hierarchy.

Frontline police officers who did not happen to serve in the offices of prominent members of the DISY government or are relatives and best men with them are disregarded in the Force’s evaluations. The deterioration in the Police Force’s effectiveness is the result of the termination, or even marginalisation, of competent police officers. The prestige of the police is being damaged not only in Cyprus, but also internationally with many cases, some of which have seen the light of day.

This situation is part of the overall state of affairs of the state and institutions under the ruling DISY party: depreciation of the rule of law and the undermining of institutions, cronyism/favoritism and putting the state and institutions under total DISY control, authoritarianism and arrogance.
