Meeting of the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL with the President of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, had a meeting today during lunch with the President of SYRIZA-PA, Stefanos Kasselakis, within the framework of his first visit to Cyprus. Delegations of AKEL and SYRIZA participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL briefed the President of SYRIZA on the current situation surrounding the Cyprus problem and more specifically on the new fait accompli Turkey is attempting to impose in Cyprus. S.Stefanou pointed out the danger of permanent partition, which can only be prevented by the immediate resumption of the talks from where they had remained at Crans Montana,

The General Secretary of AKEL underlined the importance of cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in the struggle to put an end to the occupation and division, for the liberation and reunification of Cyprus with a solution of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality, and stressed SYRIZA’s consistent stance.

During the meeting, international and topical issues of common interest were also discussed, as well as the continuation of cooperation between the two parties.
