Meeting between the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL S.Stefanou with the Governor of the Central Bank

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, had a meeting today with the Governor of the Central Bank, Constantinos Herodotou.

During the meeting, developments following the war in Ukraine and the impact of the sanctions on the Cyprus economy and its financial sector were discussed.

AKEL expressed its concerns about the banking map and the centralisation of the banking system. It called on the Central Bank to contribute, within the framework of its competences, to addressing erroneous banking practices.

In conclusion, AKEL reiterated its long-standing position on the existence of a stable and reliable banking system capable of effectively financing the needs of households and small and medium-sized enterprises.

The AKEL delegation included Charis Polycarpou, Head of Economy Policy of AKEL and Vakis Charalambous, member of the Economy Policy Bureau of AKEL.
