Meeting between AKEL and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation

A meeting took place today between the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cyprus, Murat Zyazikov.  Stefanos Stefanou was accompanied by Toumazos Tsielepis, Head of the Cyprus Problem Office of AKEL, Vera Polycarpou, Head of International Relations and European Policy of AKEL and Stavri Kalopsidiotou, member of the Cyprus Problem Office of the Party.

During the meeting, the Cyprus problem and burning international issues were discussed, especially the situation in the Middle East.

Regarding the Cyprus problem, the unchanged position of the Russian Federation for the solution of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the Resolutions of the United Nations, for a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality as defined by the UN, via the Ambassador of the Russian Federation.  There was unanimity on the urgent need for a resumption of the talks from where they had remained in 2017 at Crans Montana.

Finally, it was underlined that the finding of solutions to the problems humanity faces can only be achieved through dialogue.
