Instead of apologizing, DISY add insult to injury

AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Giorgos Koukoumas’ replies to DISY

15 February 2024, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

Instead of apologizing, DISY add insult to injury. DISY and its 10-year rule is the reason why the whole of Cyprus is paying very expensive electricity and why the country is in a state of energy insecurity.

So before DISY takes a stand on the electricity issue, let it first apologies to the Cypriot people and provide an answer to the following questions:

Why for a decade have they failed again and again to bring in natural gas, resulting in society and the economy paying hundreds of millions of euros in fines for pollutants?

Why have they left the country without infrastructures?

Why did they permit a handful of big businessmen in the renewable energy sector to make a fortune on the backs of the people?

Why have they failed miserably in penetrating renewables into the energy mix?

Why have they not dared to tax the energy companies’ exorbitant profits?

AKEL insists that everyone, first and foremost the government, should feel the pressure that households and small and medium-sized enterprises are under from the price of electricity. We insist on our proposals for both immediate and structural measures to reduce electricity prices. We know where the policies of DISY lead to and the government should realise this.
