IMF’s admissions refuting DISY/DIKO claims
Statement by George Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Press Spokesperson
30th April 2014, Nicosia
In her interview today to “SIMERINI” newspaper IMF Mission Chief for Cyprus Delia Velculescu repeats two
with the greatest of ease that this will be helpful for the Cyprus economy because as a result “funds will be transferred from the public to the private sector.” Now, why it is better that the profits of Semi-state organisations instead of strengthening public finances and remaining in the Cyprus economy should be transferred to Germany, England or to Switzerland by a multinational company, only the emperors of the IMF and the representatives of the governing Democratic Rally DISY party and the Democratic Party DIKO can explain this to us.
However, what the advocates of the Troika – and all those who protected and assisted the bankers and the former Governor of the Central Bank Athanasios Orphanides – cannot explain is the repetition of the IMF’s position, in the most categorical way, that the destruction of the Cyprus economy did not come from the alleged mismanagement of public finances or from “illnesses” in the public sector, but from the banking crime committed against our people.
