Government’s ideological devotion to Troika exposed

At the same time when the President of the Republic declared in a celebratory way the forecast about Cyprus’ early exit from the Memorandum, the Minister of Finance in an interview to the newspaper “Politis” again refuted President Anastasiades, revealing the truth. That is to say, that the Troika may well leave sooner, but the extremely anti-social Memoranda policies will continue to suffocate and oppress the Cypriot people.

Furthermore, by completely exposing and refuting the Presidential Palace’s communication plans, the Minister of Finance was clear and unequivocal as to the DISY Rally party-Anastasiades government’s real intentions. He reiterated that even if the Troika hadn’t come to Cyprus, the Memorandum should have been implemented immediately, as if it represented our own manifesto. In the same vein, he also revealed that the issue of the selling off of the profitable Semi-government organizations is not about raising money as claimed, but concerns the imposition of structural changes, thereby admitting that the government and ruling forces are not telling the truth on the privatizations issue when they were making pledges to the contrary.

The on-going mess of contradictory statements, inconsistencies and the in-fighting inside the government formation, which also refer to President Anastasiades himself, highlight the government’s ineffectuality and inability to responsibly tackle the serious challenges Cyprus is facing. They also illustrate however the dishonesty of the government’s intentions, and especially the enormous dangers stemming from its conscious insistence on implementing anti-social austerity policies, while it is precisely these very same policies that have led to the devastating consequences on the Cyprus economy and everywhere these have been implemented.
