Government was fully aware of Eurogroup decision behorehand
Written statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Press Office Spokesperson,
31st March 2014, Nicosia
The Deputy Government Spokesman tried today to refute all that Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem mentined to Parliament’s Finance Committee with regards the decision for the haircut on bank deposits and more specifically concerning the fact that the Anastasiades government was informed and knew about it from the 4th March 2013.
We once again call upon the government and the President of the Republic to find the political courage and finally admit the truth about the events that preceded the Eurogroup decision, namely, that the Anastasiades government was fully informed about the Troika’s demand for a haircut/levy on bank deposits, but never informed the political leadership.
We reiterate that such an action on the one hand will restore the truth, whilst on the other will end the endless discussion and political confrontation, contributing to the effort to restore people’s perception of institutions and political involvement.
