Government retail trade sector rules serve private interests

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 8th April 2015, Nicosia

econ working hoursThe government and the Minister of Labour are trying with the regulations on shop opening hours to legitimize the content of arbitrary decrees the Minister of Labour has been issuing to date, through which all of Cyprus has been designated as a tourist area.

The Anastasiades-DISY Rally party government persists in serving the interests of a small number very big companies in the retail sector, in defiance of the will of the majority of the House of Representatives and ignoring the serious negative side effects at the expense of SME’s, working people and of society itself.

We call once again on the government to abandon its dogmatic obsessions, its class interventions and proceed to table regulations that will serve the public interest, society and economy and not specific large private interests in the retail trade sector.
