Government propaganda about economic “success story” insulting people’s intelligence
Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C Press Office, 6th October 2015, Nicosia
The leadership and the government of DISY Rally party are desperately trying to convince our people that we are living through a “success story”, a new miracle in the Cyprus economy. This time they did so by taking advantage of an article in the “Financial Times” about Cyprus’ future entry in the markets, having as its source the government and ruling forces themselves, and of course the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation CyBC, which has long been developing into the DISY party government’s mouthpiece.
We shall reiterate that the government and ruling forces are not convincing at all, no matter how much propaganda and mechanisms they use, since our people feel the pain of the “tremendous” and “excellent” results of these anti-social Memoranda policies of the leadership and government of DISY party.
The only thing they have achieved is to insult the intelligence and emotions of citizens, working people, the vulnerable groups of the population and the unemployed, households and SME’s, who continue to suffer from the persistence of the DISY leadership and government in imposing vicious austerity, deregulation and serving the interests of large private interests.
We stress that Cyprus will recover only when our people manage to stand on its feet; when tens of thousands of unemployed people find dignified jobs and when workers regain a dignified income and working conditions; when hundreds of thousands of impoverished will be liberated from the grip of poverty; when our youth cease to migrate by the thousands; when we close the social food banks; when tens of thousands of our fellow citizens will no longer live in fear of losing their home or the premises of their small business.
